'Ali, Abdullah Yusuf,
(translator,) The Meaning of
The Holy Qur'an, (New Edition with Revised Translation and
Commentary);
Brentwood, MD: Amana Corporation; Distributed by The International
Institute
of Islamic Thought, Herndon, Virginia
Comment: This
work is the translation approved
by the American Muslim Council. The language in this edition
is more
moderate than some of that that found in the Dawood
translation.
The translator memorized the entire Qur'an as a child. As an
adult
he studied numerous western and eastern translations and scholarly
commentary
based on those translations. He competed this translation
while serving
as Dean of the Islamic College in Lahore, India. [See
Dawood
translation]

Comment: In
General Systems Theory, The
Law of Requisite Variety (Ashby's Law) states that in
order to resolve
problems for any system of a type with a given amount of complexity,
the
coping system must have an equivalent or greater variety of copying
capacity,
or it will behave pathologically. The greater the difference between
the
complexity of the target system compared to the coping system the
greater
the evident pathology, e.g., in an interpersonal relationship, if one
person
devotes themselves to an active program of personal growth, the
relationship
will often become dysfunctional due to the increasing gap in the
respective
consciousness of the parties. [key

1941, The Impersonal Life,

Comment: Usually
published under an
"Anonymous" author, this book is written from the perspective of the
voice
of THE PRESENCE
within, and is a guide for
shedding one's emotional attachment to all things of the world. While
it
is simple to read, it recommends a way of life that few on earth will
be
equal to, for it represents the ultimate in self discipline in one's
control
of the senses and the mind. This discipline is the required
pre-condition
for access into the realms of Spirit.

Secret Doctrine:
The Synthesis of Science, Religion and Philosophy, (2 Vols),
Centennial
Edition, Burbank, Ca: Theosophical University Press. [Blavatsky
on the Internet] [Theosophical
Society on the Internet]
Comment: Volume
1 is devoted to Cosmogenesis,
Volume 2 is devoted to Anthropogenesis. Blavatsky (a Russian Mystic)
founded
the Theosophical Society with Henry Steel Olcott and William
Quan
Judge near the end of the 19th Century (1875.) She lived
between
1831 and 1891, dividing her later years among the United States,
England
and Tibet/India. Luminaries associated with this society
include
General Abner Doubleday, (creator of baseball,) and the inventor Thomas
Alva Edison. Albert Einstein kept a copy of The
Secret Doctrine
on
his desk. Charles and Myrtle Fillmore who cofounded
the Unity
School of Christianity, along with many other leaders in the New
Thought
movement [Gnostic Christian resurgence,] were
active members of
this society.

Comment: She
is one of the world's most
respected latter day scholars of ancient Mysticism, a Mystic herself,
perhaps
even an Adept, has commented extensively on the western mind's
confusion
about Karma and its mechanism of reincarnation. Her
references to
Karma are in the context of her Holistic model, a grand scheme
incorporating
the whole of the Cosmos.

reprinted in 1988, Isis
Unveiled: A Master Key to the Mysteries of Ancient and Modern Science
and
Philosophy, (2 Vol), (Pasadena, CA: Theosophical Publishing

Comment: This
work is the precursor to the
Secret Doctrine. Blavatsky was prolific writer, among many other works,
she also wrote a major prelude to this set. Its first volume is
entitled
"Science" and the second "Theology." A major interpreter of her complex
concepts is: de Purucker, G., 1935, The Esoteric Tradition, (2 Vols),
Pasadena,
Ca: Theosophical University Press.

Blavatsky, Helena P, 1889/1976, The
Voice of the Silence,

Comment: Translated
(from the Tibetan) by HPB
with commentary, from The Book of Dzyan The book
offers insight
into the nature and dynamics of "The Silence" which is a difficult
concept
for the western intellect to embrace. In the "The
Silence" is the Source
of Knowing.

Comment: This
is an exhaustive compilation
of the evidence in support of reincarnation that must exist as a
Spiritual
Principle. The scholarship of this work is meticulous and extensive.
One
can hardly imagine any serious opposition that could stand in the face
of her pattern of evidence. NOTE: The 1991 edition has still
more
material added to the previous version. For reasons unknown
to me,
the book now credits Joseph Head as principal author. Consistent with
the
concerns of OT/MP for correctness in assigning credit, I wonder why
credit
for a significant contribution to the literature on Mysticism has
suddenly
changed. I have inquired of the Theosophical
Publishing house
where I just noticed the change (April, 2003.) I will leave
this
comment in place until I get an explanation.

Comment: Chardin,
Jesuit priest, a palaeontolengist,
was banished to China by the Catholic church because of his heretical
ideas.
There he spent the last part of his life. In spite of its
enormous
contribution to metaphysics, de Chardin wanted his work to be seen as a
scientific treatise rather than as a metaphysical or theological work [p
29]. This book was suppressed by the Catholic chruch
until his
death in 1955, after which which it was first published in Paris by
Editions
de Seuil that same year. From his analytical studies of the genetic and
palaeontological history of all living matter, he recognized that that
there has to be an embracing shield of thinking Consciousness that
envelops
the earth, within which all levels of life exist as contributors and
beneficiaries
with humanity at the apex. He called this shield, a natural
progression
of consciousness as a part of the eternal cosmogenisis, the Noosphere.
He wrote:
"The recognition and isolation of a new era
in evolution,
the era of noogenesis, obliges us to distinguish...yet another membrane
in the telluric layers. A glow ripples outward from the first spark of
conscious reflection. The point of ignition grows larger. The
fire
spreads in ever widening circles till finally the whole planet is
covered
with incandescence. Only one interpretation, only one name
can be
found worthy of this grand phenomenon...In other words, outside and
above
the biosphere there is the noosphere. " [pp 181-182]

light on
the historical facts regarding Gnostic Christianity, its roots,
practices,
and advocates during the first 300 years of the Christian
era. This
information is particularly relevant today because of the resurgence of
the original Gnostic Principles in New Thought Christianity

on Gnostic

This book provides profound insight on the Metaphysical
meanings
behind the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 Disciples in ways that can be
applied to empower one's comprehension of the teachings of Jesus. By
this
means, one can empower one's Spiritual Consciousness and the decisions

Fillmore, Charles, 1931: Metaphysical
Bible Dictionary
(MBD,) Unity Village, MO, Unity School of Christianity.
Comment: Compiled
by Charles Fillmore. Although
Fillmore is justly credited with the creation of this dictionary, it
must
be noted that in its creation, Fillmore gathered together a number of
Biblical
scholars, especially Rabbis who were professionally involved with The
Qabalah, the ancient teachings of Jewish
Mysticism.
Since its original publication, in 1931, the following comments have
been
said about this work:
"As a result of over twenty years of close
examination and
the causing of some hundred copies to be placed in the hands of
colleagues,
students and friends, it is my humble opinion that the Metaphysical
Bible Dictionary is the best aid to the translation of
physical metaphors
into nonphysical precepts available to us today. Although the author,
on
a personal level, identifies with and uses as an instrument for
publication
a clearly defined religious system, the Metaphysical Bible
Dictionary
transcends the boundaries of any one religion. Through his unique and
skillful
authorship, Charles Fillmore has in this work accomplished the amazing
dichotomy of being rudimentary and paramount, foundational yet, exalted
in the totality of this presentation. The Bibles of the major
religions
of the world, - Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islamism and
others merge on the pages of this book. Its offering is generous to the
novice and the professional." Michael Maday (Editor)

Haish is a world
renowned astrophysicist and was editor of the Astrophysical Journal
for ten years. His biography also shows in-depth contact with
Buddhism, Mysticism and metaphysics. The Mystical Paradigm
embraces the ideas and concepts as are represented in this book.
Further, these
ideas are consistent with the metaphysics of Charles
Fillmore and other contributors to the Unity and New Thought
movements, and to the emergent Gnostic Christian resurgence.

Comment: The
popular associations assigned
to the Four horsemen include the plagues of Famine, Pestilence, War
with
Death as the Fourth Horseman. But the Ancient Mysteries were reflected
in the Gnostic book of the Apocalypse which was deleted from the Bible
by the early church fathers in their struggle with the Gnostics and
their
pagan origins, but it was" sanitized and redefined into the Book of
Revelation.
In the mysticism of the Apocalypse the four horsemen are mystically
described
in the Book of Revelation as allegedly compiled by St. John. The
horsemen
are released by the opening of the first four seals. The first seal
(Rev
6:2) releases a white horse with a rider bearing a crown and bow,
symbolic
of birth with its promise and equipment for the conquest of life; the
second
seal (Rev 6:4) releases a red horse with rider holding a great sword,
symbolizing
maturity and its blind commitment to the sensate dominance of reality;
the third seal (Rev 6:5) releases a black horse with a rider carrying a
pair of balances (scales) symbolizing old age and the surrender of
youthful
strength to the rule of logic and reason; and the fourth seal (Rev 6:8)
releases a pale horse symbolizing death and the torments of hell. This
hell is similar to the eastern concept of Karma or continuing rebirth
into
life until saved by a genuine illumination of Consciousness, i.e.,
birth
of Spirit, or the "Second Coming," (i.e., as in "John 3:5, NIV: "Jesus
answered, `I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless
he is born of water and the Spirit.'") [Contact Philosophical

of success, and more dangerous to carry through than initiating change
in a state's constitution [read "an established paradigm" in
place
of "a state's constitution"] The innovator makes enemies of
all those
who prospered under the old order, and only lukewarm support is
forthcoming
from those would prosper under the new. ...whenever those who oppose
change
can do so, they attack vigorously, and the defense made by others is
only
lukewarm. So both the innovator and his friends are endangered
together."

Comment: Highly
recommended. This
reference is included in this metaphysical section (rather than the social
commentary section) because of its foundation focus on the role of secret
societies in contemporary politics and their connection to the ancient
mysteries. This book is a tour de force
of meticulous documentation linking contemporary politics with its historical
antecedents in the form of the actions and influences of various secret
societies, e.g., the Council on Foreign Relations, Skull & Bones Society,
Bilderburger Society, Freemasons, the Illuminati, the Rosicrucian's, the Priory
of Sion, and so on. Some of these groups originally arose to counter the
persistent perversions of Jesus' message by the Christian church [evidence] as
the proto-orthodox Bishops tried to preserve the existence and power of the
lineage of apostolic successors as approved by them. These have tortured and
murdered hundreds of thousands of adherents to various views that
contradicted
and opposed their
official dogma
over the past two millennia. These opposing groups
included those who protected and advanced the Gnostic teachings of Jesus and
other expressions of Spiritual Truth that began with the very dawn of human
consciousness as the first expressions of the ancient mysteries. [See Note]
